GigaJam 2019: Inherit
We had 48 hours to create anything artistic, so my teammate and I strove to create a 2D short! Lars Robertson worked on sound design, 3D modeling/backgrounds, and rendering while I worked on 2D animation, Visual Development, compositing, and storyboard.
Challenges: With creating in such a short time span, the biggest challenge was allocating time to places that needed it. Pre-production had to go very fast so we could have time to animate and model, so the storyboard phase was quickly iterated through on whiteboards. We were originally planning to flex our muscles with 2D animation composited on 3D moving backgrounds, but we didn't have enough time to render, so we ended up compromising with still renders and small After Effects tricks. This was also my first time compositing using After Effects to create light and shadow with flat animations as well. If I could do this again, I'd probably do some animation practices beforehand, because when I started I was stuck for two hours on one shot because I felt rusty.
